A Second Chance, Built Together
Meet Tynedra

The night Tynedra arrived in Miami with her two sons, she believed she was stepping into a fresh start.
She had moved from Oklahoma hoping to rebuild her life with the support of her mother.
Instead, she found herself standing outside a locked door—with nowhere to go.
Her calls went unanswered. Her knocks were ignored. And in an instant, the stability she had counted on disappeared.
Within days, Tynedra and her boys were homeless.
Determined to keep her family together, she entered a shelter in Miami. There, amid uncertainty, a window of hope appeared: an affordable housing opportunity in Orlando. She had been on the waitlist since 2017. When her name came up, she didn’t hesitate.
For a moment, stability returned.
But it didn’t last.
After losing both his father and grandmother, Tynedra’s older son began struggling with intense grief that turned into anger—and eventually physical violence toward her. What began as outbursts became a painful pattern, with Tynedra often on the receiving end.
She tried to hold her family together But one day, when she defended herself during an escalation, she was arrested.
“I feel like the system failed me as a mom.”
That moment cost her everything again. She lost her housing and found herself homeless for a second time, overwhelmed by exhaustion and uncertainty.
This time, it almost broke her. But she kept going.
Encouraged by friends who reminded her, “You’re the strong one,” Tynedra reached out to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.
And because of supporters like you, when she called, someone answered.
Tynedra entered the Coalition shelter with her youngest son, Timmy, determined to rebuild quickly.
With safe shelter, support, and stability, she got to work. In less than 30 days, she was approved for affordable housing.
She didn’t do it alone.
Because of you, she had a place to land.
Because of you, she had support to move forward.
Because of you, a crisis became a turning point.
During her stay, Tynedra and Timmy became a familiar, uplifting presence on campus. When they moved into their new home, it was a moment of celebration.
“Sometimes to move forward in life, you have to keep going, no matter the circumstances.”
Six months later, she saw a job opening at the Coalition—and applied.
Today, Tynedra is safely housed, and works full time at the Coalition as a Guest Services Professional—working with the very organization that helped her rebuild. She uses her lived experience to support others walking similar paths, offering empathy and hope.
She is now pursuing her goal of becoming a psychiatrist.
Her story didn’t end in homelessness—or even in housing.
Because of you, it continues.
Because of you, a mother who once stood with nowhere to go now has stability, purpose, and a future.
Because of you, stories like Tynedra’s become something more than survival—they become hope that lasts.
