Honoring Allison Krall: A Legacy of Compassion, Creativity, and Community
Two Decades of Service to the Coalition

With heartfelt appreciation and a touch of sadness, we announce the retirement of Allison Krall, President and CEO of Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. For over 20 years, Allison dedicated herself to transforming the lives of men, women, and children experiencing homelessness in our community.
From her early days as the Coalition’s controller to her tenure as CEO, Allison brought faith, vision, and relentless compassion into everything she did. Under her leadership, the organization expanded its reach, opened the Men’s Service Center, and strengthened community partnerships that continue to create real, lasting change for our guests. She led with a deep belief in the dignity of every person we serve—and in the power of collaboration to end homelessness, one life at a time.
As we bid farewell to Allison, we celebrate her impact by sharing her own words and reflections on her journey.
Q&A with Allison Krall
What brought you to the Coalition?
“The opportunity showed up in the newspaper and seemed like such a perfect fit for me. The controller position was my first job with the Coalition. And it would give me an opportunity to use my skills to be able to serve a population that I've always had a heart for." Allison recalls feeling like the Coalition was exactly where she needed to be, "From the moment I stepped on campus, it felt like home...and it was, every single day for the last 25 years," she says.
How has your understanding of homelessness evolved over the years?
“My initial introduction to homelessness—to the fact that there were people who didn't have homes and were literally sleeping on park benches and living on the streets—[came from my dad]. I had the opportunity to go out with him on Saturday morning—and this was his regular Saturday morning—to parks in downtown Sanford and sit next to individuals experiencing homelessness and talk to them and get to know them and befriend them."
She continues, "It was caring, compassionate...let's bring them a McMuffin, let's bring them a coffee. What can we do? To help ease this time. My parents were trying to relieve the suffering on the streets...the Coalition was actually trying to end their homelessness completely. The Coalition was my first introduction to solutions, to helping people actually end homelessness."
What has sustained you through more than two decades of service?
“The Coalition became part of who I am,” she shares. "It was why I got up every day...it is my heart. Everything about the Coalition is who I have become...It wasn't just a job; it was my life."
She adds, "It's about the people we serve. It's about seeing lives changed. It's about community collaboration. All the amazing partners that we have in this work, and it's about the creativity...and so as long as we continue to [end homelessness], there is reason to come to work every day."
What are you most proud of?
While Allison played a role in many major milestones, one project stands out: the Men's Service Center.
When Allison started at the Coalition, the Men's Service Center did not exist. Instead, individual men were utilizing the drop-in pavilion. "Men slept on mats on the floor with no air conditioning. Eating and sleeping in the same space. It was just a drop-in center. Come in at night; on the streets during the day."
It became Allison's mission to create change for these individual men who deserved more dignity and compassion. As CEO, she took on the project—attending each and every meeting necessary to ensure the construction of the new facility. And thanks to her efforts, in 2011, the Coalition welcomed the newly designed Men's Service Center, which welcomed 250 beds for unsheltered men to seek emergency shelter, services, and case management.
The impact has been transformative. “There were guys who has been living in our pavilion for 15 years...there was nothing offered that could change their lives...and when you look at our current Men's Service Center...the average length of stay is 100-110 days...it was unprecedented...and what we have been able to accomplish since then...is a point of extreme pride, not for me, but for the work that this organization does."
What do you want people to remember when they recall your time at the Coalition?
“I would want people to remember the collaborations. The friendships. The hard work. I think as an agency, we care. We are mission-focused...our agency has been creative in many ways that many homeless shelters are not."
She continues, "That creativity is a huge, important part of who we are as an agency, in leading in the field and not just following best practices."
What's one message you'd like to leave with staff, volunteers, or supporters who've been part of this journey with you?
"Collectively, I would say a huge 'thank you!' It has truly been the honor of my life to serve people in need, to be affiliated with one of the most important organizations in Central Florida, and I have had the opportunity to lead some of the most amazing team members that exist on the planet."
Allison continues, "The Central Florida community has rallied behind the Coalition and supported so faithfully for many, many years. Our donors, partners...our friends at the city and the county—the people who support—blow my mind...[and] our volunteers are the heartbeat of the Coalition. They are here daily, serving meals to our guests, painting, landscaping, and helping us leverage our precious cash donations. Thank you for all you do, unseen by most, and truly appreciated."
What's next for you—whether relaxing, traveling, or doing something new?
"My husband, Chris, and I have five beautiful children--each married to their other half, and we just welcomed our 11th grandchild into the world. We are expecting our 12th in October. We have been blessed beyond comprehension. I am so grateful for my time at the Coalition."
Allison continues, "I am looking forward to traveling, hugging lots of babies, and finding time to enjoy sunrises and sunsets. During my 25 years with the Coalition, I have never taken more than 3 weeks off consecutively...I can't wait to see what week 4 looks like."
Any advice you'd pass to Brad Butterstein as he takes on the role of new President and CEO?
"You have a great heart to serve. Homelessness is one of the most important issues facing our country. The Coalition is leading the community, the efforts locally, and has the potential to be a national leader...the Coalition has enormous potential. [We] have only just begun to shine."
A Grateful Farewell—and a Hopeful Future
As Allison steps into retirement, we honor her legacy and the spirit of innovation and compassion she cultivated. Her leadership helped shape the Coalition into a force for dignity and change, and her vision will continue to inspire our mission for years to come.
