Introducing Our New CEO: Brad Butterstein
A Familiar Face Stepping Into a Bold New Role

Newly appointed President and CEO, Brad Butterstein and former President and CEO, Allison Krall
We’re proud to introduce Brad Butterstein as the new President & CEO of Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. Following the retirement of longtime leader Allison Krall, who dedicated more than two decades to advancing our mission, Brad steps into this role with deep respect for her legacy and a bold vision for what’s ahead. A familiar face to many, Brad served on the Coalition’s Board of Directors for more than six years and brings a wealth of leadership, community insight, and heart to this next chapter.
In the interview below, Brad shares his story, his passion for the work, and what excites him most about leading the Coalition forward. Get to know him in this candid Q&A.
What drew you to the Coalition board when you first came on board?
“My love for community services, Central Florida and Orlando, and just being able to help out others.”
What has working alongside Allison [Krall] taught you about leadership or the heart of this organization?
“You have to lead with passion. You have to lead with empathy. [Allison] definitely has that, and you can see that through her work.”
How do you see your past experiences shaping your leadership in this role?
“I had every role at Data Graphics—my former employer. I started in the accounting department, and then I worked my way up...I worked in sales, production, IT, HR...[I was a] general manager, where I oversaw the plant, as well as VP, and then President of the company. Each step of the way provided me insight into how businesses operate, and shaped me as a leader, working with people and knowing their different viewpoints...I think it’s a natural transition for me. I also have experience serving on several nonprofit boards in town...I feel that sets me up for success here.”
What is your personal “why” behind the work we do at the Coalition?
“To help people. I think it’s that simple. To help people in need… My family started on food stamps. I saw my parents use services…and as I grew up, I’ve never forgotten that...and [then my family] got involved with Meals on Wheels, and I’ve grown up in that…trying to provide help to others…We’re only here for a short period of time, and we want to leave a legacy on this community and leave an impact on this community that will be far beyond our years here…That’s why we do it. Because we can and we want to.”
What is the core message you want people to know as you step into this role?
“The Coalition provides critical services to the community, and if the Coalition weren't here, what would these 800 individuals who use our services on a daily basis do in this community? Coming into this role, I want to make an impact on individuals. They do not need a handout; they need a hand up. These individuals may be in circumstances that are beyond their control, and as an agency, it's our responsibility to help those people reach their goals.
And I truly believe that Central Florida community has the heart for it. There’s a lot of good nonprofits out there that are supported very well, including ours... we’re known in this Parramore area for doing good work, and we want to continue that and build off what’s already here.”
What are some immediate priorities or goals you’re looking forward to tackling?
“I want to continue getting our name into the community, specifically in a positive light. People think of homelessness in a negative way. I want to elevate our story within the community. Each year, we are getting a lot of individuals into permanent housing (between 90-120 days). These are not individuals or families that are staying here for years. I want to get these metrics out into the community. We've got success in the model we have and in the full services that we provide.
The agency is nearly 40 years old. That's a constant reminder that we are needed in our community and that we are here with services that are valuable to individuals in our community."
How has your perception of homelessness changed?
“There are myths around homelessness. You know—‘people are lazy’…people are [actually] living paycheck to paycheck. You are one medical issue away. You are one car issue away. You are one child issue away as a single parent…People are coming in here, and they just need help. They need some guidance… in some cases, they don’t know where to get the resources… but there are resources out there… and we’re all here to help each other out. That’s what we should live by.”
If you could sum up your leadership style in one phrase, what would it be?
“It’s about bringing the best out of the people that you work with… My leadership style is… put other people first and myself secondary. I think that’s what a leader is supposed to do… You know… take staff and people that you work with beyond where they think they can go and celebrate that.”
What excites you most about leading the Coalition in this next chapter?
“The possible outcomes. The success stories of people getting off the streets. I—as a leader—like to see success for the people around me. I like seeing staff be successful, and I like seeing our guests get to the point of permanent housing.”
What message would you like to share with our supporters, volunteers, and donors?
“First of all, thank you to all of our donors, supporters, and volunteers who have been with the agency all these years. When you come to volunteer or donate to the Coalition, we take that dollar and we stretch our services. We are fiscally responsible, and we make sure to turn that dollar into measurable outcomes.
We’re in this together, and this is a problem that we can tackle together. There are opportunities out there to make a difference in the lives of so many more individuals who need our services, and if we can collaborate and come together, we’re just going to multiply the good that we can do.”
Why is it especially important right now for people to care and get involved?
“There’s a lot of economic hardship out there that is making it more difficult for people to get back on their feet; between rising rents, wages that aren’t keeping up with those rents, medical expenses, groceries… everything is up. And there’s nothing like the present to get involved. You can turn a blind eye to it, but the situations are in front of us and we can decide to focus on this as a community, or we can turn and look the other way… When you have individuals that are stable in the community, it helps everybody. It helps the business community, it helps the city. It helps the country.”
Do you have any additional thoughts you'd like to share about the transition into CEO?
"We want to honor Allison’s legacy and all her years of service over the past 20 years. We’re going to honor that, and we’re going to build upon it. We can’t do what we do today, if it weren’t for the people before us. The Coalition has provided great services to this community, and we want to continue doing those things…and help more people out there. And then take it to the next level.”
