The Coalition has literally hundreds of groups visiting our campuses every year that help us out in one way or another. From landscaping to painting to serving meals to sorting donations to organizing fun & games for our clients, these groups have enriched the lives of our clients in their own way. These groups have ranged in size from 5 to over 500! To get your group involved, call 407.872.5784 or e-mail marty.vevera@cflhomeless.org. We look forward to partnering with you!
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Does each of our members need to fill out a volunteer application and go through a background check?
No. As long as your group is affiliated with an organization – business, church, or club - that is familiar to us and/or known in the community no further screening is required. In the case of a group of friends and/or family getting together, individual applications and background checks will be required. All group activities are supervised by staff or an experienced volunteer.
- Can we bring our children along?
This all depends on the activity and the child. Many groups that come to the Coalition include children, and some of them are primarily children – such as Boy Scout troops and the 4th graders from the Master’s Academy. They have proven to be very helpful! We ask that such groups bring adequate adult supervision appropriate to the task and the children involved. Only you can determine whether a child will be a help or a hindrance. We ask you not to bring the latter.
- Our group wants to serve meals. What is involved?
Our Community Meal Service Program is a well-established, highly successful program. The groups participating in the program not only serve the meals, but most importantly they provide the meals that they are serving. The good news: We have about 80 groups participating in the Community Meal Service Program who do so on a regular (monthly) on-going basis. The bad news: This leaves few openings for any new meal service groups. However, there are still a few openings that we would love to have filled. Please call 407.872.5784 or e-mail at marty.vevera@cflhomeless.org to discuss meal service opportunities. To find out more about this exciting program, click here.
- When is the best time for our group to volunteer?
This all depends on what your group wants to do. For instance, the best time for a group to do some sort of facility project (painting, landscaping) is generally during the week. A group (no more than 6 people) that wants to help in our day care needs to come in the mornings during the week. A group that wants to hold some sort of activity for our children or clients generally needs to come on the weekend. To discuss, please call us at 407.872.5784 or e-mail us at marty.vevera@cflhomeless.org
- Can we hold a church service or bible study for your clients?
We consider people's spiritual beliefs and practices to be of a personal nature, and thus each client should address their needs on their own personal time. Many of our clients have reached out to the faith based organizations that support the Coalition – they know that they care about them.
