Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida
Men’s Services

The Pavilion is a traditional drop-in shelter that can house 375 men on a given night. It is the only emergency drop-in shelter in Central Florida. Men who stay at the Pavilion are provided a warm meal, showers, and a place to sleep for the night.

Meals are served thanks to the kindness of volunteers throughout the community who come in 365 days a year to prepare food. All meals are open to the community. Nearly 20 percent of the food served goes to people in the community who are not homeless, but do not have money for food on a given night.

First Steps Shelter Recovery Program for Men
The Pavilion is also home to First Steps Shelter Recovery Program for Men, a substance abuse program created by the Coalition. This unique substance abuse program challenges men to recover from their addictions while living at the Coalition. First Steps includes a variety of services, from Alcoholics Anonymous to Anger Management and Yoga.

Men involved in the First Steps Shelter Recovery Program work one-on-one with a case manager to create a plan for self-sufficiency and take advantage of services available at the Coalition. Click here to meet a client celebrating his successes after completing First Steps.

First Steps Transitional Housing Program
First Steps Transitional Housing Program is provided in the Coalition's nine on-site transitional apartments for up to 32 men, all of whom have successfully completed First Steps or a similar program and are recovering from their addictions. A six to eight month program, First Steps Transitional Housing offers clients the opportunity to grow in their recovery, discuss real life issues, learn relapse prevention techniques, and benefit from group support.

Understanding that recovery is an ongoing process requiring the development of certain skills, a case manager will continue to assist clients in building the resiliency and self-sufficiency traits necessary for reintegration into the community. The Coalition's goal is that the structure and encouragement in First Steps Transitional Housing will provide clients the additional time, over and above their First Steps or other recovery program, to practice the skills necessary to live independently.
