First Steps Shelter Recovery Program for Men

First Steps Transitional Housing Program
First Steps Transitional Housing Program is provided in the Coalition's nine on-site transitional apartments for up to 32 men, all of whom have successfully completed First Steps or a similar program and are recovering from their addictions. A six to eight month program, First Steps Transitional Housing offers clients the opportunity to grow in their recovery, discuss real life issues, learn relapse prevention techniques, and benefit from group support.
Understanding that recovery is an ongoing process requiring the development of certain skills, a case manager will continue to assist clients in building the resiliency and self-sufficiency traits necessary for reintegration into the community. The Coalition's goal is that the structure and encouragement in First Steps Transitional Housing will provide clients the additional time, over and above their First Steps or other recovery program, to practice the skills necessary to live independently.
First Steps Shelter Recovery Program for Women
The Center for Women and Families is also home to First Steps Shelter Recovery Program for Women, a substance abuse recovery program created by the Coalition. Modeled after the Coalition's First Steps Shelter Recovery Program for Men, this initiative challenges women to recover from their addictions while living at the Coalition. The program includes a partnership with Specialized Treatment, Education & Prevention Services, Inc. (STEPS) and numerous programs such as Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous and the Women's Empowerment Group.
