Coalition Awarded $200,000 by Bank of America
Agency named “Neighborhood Builder

ORLANDO, Fla. — (November 18, 2008)—Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Inc. will be honored with a $200,000 Neighborhood Excellence Initiative® (NEI) Neighborhood Builder™ Award from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation at last night's awards ceremony, held at the Orlando Museum of Art.

The prestigious Neighborhood Builder Award was presented to the Coalition as a nonprofit organization committed to improving the Central Florida community. In addition to $200,000 in unrestricted grant funding, over two years, the honor includes participation by the Coalition's President/CEO and an emerging agency leader in an innovative leadership development program with other nonprofit leaders across the country and London.

"I am deeply indebted to Bank of America Charitable Foundation for honoring Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida with a 2008 Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Award," said Coalition President/CEO Brent A. Trotter. "This generous award will most definitely strengthen our ability to fulfill our mission. It will enable us to continue pioneering much-needed programs for clients who turn to the Coalition for help."

The Coalition will employ the grant monies to fund two new initiatives. One initiative will be the creation of a residential substance abuse recovery program for homeless women, patterned after the agency's similar "First Steps Program" for men. Women who are addicts and are homeless have a unique set of issues.

Secondly, for the first time ever, the Coalition will be able to offer supportive services and referrals for chronically-homeless men. On-site staff will be dedicated to helping these men gain the tools and resources they need to be able to help themselves.

"The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is extremely pleased to recognize the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida as a 2008 Neighborhood Builder and commends them for their positive impact on the Orlando community," said John Moskos, Central Florida market president, Bank of America. "The critical work and the commitment the Coalition demonstrates to improving the lives of some of our most vulnerable community members truly exemplify the mission of the Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards program."
