Coalition Benefits from Flatfoot Records Event
ORLANDO, Fla. — (August 7, 2007)—Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Inc. was the beneficiary of the time, talents, and $500 raised by up-and-coming college musicians. During a festive afternoon and evening event held in late July on the donated front lawn of "the house on Rouse" (Road), more than 100 Valencia College students and friends partied to the sounds of bands from Valencia's music program and their very own Flatfoot Records label.
Housed on Valencia's East Campus, FlatFoot Records offers a hands-on learning environment for students in the Music and Sound Technology Program. The label sponsors events such as the one held in July to highlight their diverse local bands. For this occasion, event planners generously decided to donate their profits to charity and selected the Coalition for the Homeless as their charity of choice.
Though admission to the event on the expansive lawn was free, donations were accepted from the hungry student crowd for hot dogs and drinks. Several artisans also sold their wares, with the knowledge that a portion of their profits would benefit the Coalition. The evening's storms may have curtailed the number of performing bands, but not the students' spirit. The Coalition is most grateful for their generosity!
Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida and the largest residential facility for children. On any given night, nearly 200 children call the Coalition home. Their average age is seven.
