MEDIA ADVISORY
Homeless Children Benefit from Junior League Generosity

WHAT/WHO: Dedication of Tot Lot and Learning Lab donated by the Junior League of Greater Orlando (JLGO), Inc. to Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida’s Women’s Residential and Counseling Center (WRCC).

WHEN/WHERE:: Saturday, May 5, 2007
11:00 am

Women’s Residential and Counseling Center (WRCC)
107 E. Hillcrest Street
Orlando, FL 32801

WHY: Women, children and families are the fastest-growing segments of the homeless population. Nearly 200 children each night call the Coalition home. About 50 of these youngsters live with their mothers at the WRCC, a 126-bed transitional housing facility for women and children. Their average age is less than six years old.

For the past 10 years, JLGO has donated their talents and resources to assist the homeless women and children at WRCC. Knowing that the majority of WRCC’s young residents are of pre-school age, the League recently created & funded a Tot Lot to meet the Coalition’s specifications. They generously gave of their time and secured $27,500 for the play area.

Equally committed to the WRCC’s school-age population, JLGO also planned, funded and fully-outfitted the Learning Lab and developed a complementary tutoring program to meet the needs of the students.
