COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
NAMES INTERIM CEO


(Veteran of Salvation Army, David Birmingham, will oversee the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida
)

ORLANDO, Fla. — (March 8, 2006) — Doug Spencer, chairman of the board of directors for Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida has announced David Birmingham will serve as interim CEO during a transitional period to fill the position left vacant by president/CEO Robert H. Brown, who recently accepted the leadership position with the Heart of Florida United Way.

Birmingham recently retired as Orlando Area Commander for The Salvation Army after five years of service, and has more than 30 years of experience in leadership positions with The Salvation Army and in the field of development. Birmingham retired as Orlando Area Commander in July 2005.

“David brings a depth of knowledge about homeless services in Central Florida to the Coalition, ensuring a smooth transition as we continue the search for the next president/CEO,” notes Spencer. “David has already indicated he is not interested in assuming the permanent position, but will offer his expertise during the next crucial months.”

Birmingham entered the College for Officer's Training of The Salvation Army in 1966. During his career with The Salvation Army, he has served as associate community relations and development director for the Southern Territory, as well as the Florida Divisional Headquarters.

Birmingham served 10 years with the U.S. Army. Later, he served several years as the development director for Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Coalition for the Homeless is the largest provider of residential services for children in Central Florida. One out of every four people the Coalition serves is a child, with an average age of eight-years-old.

The Coalition works to address the needs of the homeless in the community and serves as a catalyst for community collaboration to end homelessness by offering comprehensive programs and job training to help the homeless return to self-sufficiency.
