The scary reality is that 172,000 people in Central Florida (1 in 5) are hungry.
You may be surprised to learn how much hope a simple meal of soup, salad, and bread can represent to those who face hunger, homelessness and poverty in our community. Every day, our hungry neighbors make difficult choices between buying for food for their family or paying rent. Last year, Coalition for the Homeless helped alleviate the stress of making these unimaginable decisions by providing over 300,000 nutritious meals to hungry men, women and children.
Thank you to all who joined us during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week at the Coalition's newest fundraising event, the Empty Bowls Symbolic Soup Kitchen Luncheon. This established community event, hosted for the last 20 years by our partners at Second Harvest Food Bank, was held on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 11:30am – 1pm at the Sonesta Hotel Orlando Downtown. We raised over $20,000 to fight hunger in our community, as well as awareness about those who face Empty Bowls in our community each day
Tickets to this enlightening and heartwarming event are only $35 each, and sponsorships and corporate tables are available. Sponsorship details and registration are available online or contact Tami Karaba at 407.426.1259 or tami.karaba@cflhomeless.org for more information.
